
April the 5th SHCTC held a Balsa Wood Bridge Building Contest. The goal was to build a bridge made from balsa wood to see who's bridge could hold the most weight. Students in 5th - 8th grade from our home districts were invited to participate. There were around 225 students in attendance. The event was awesome and the students had a great time breaking the bridges. The event was captured on FB live, please check out the pictures of the event below.
Results are:
1st Overall - Ellie & Ross from Georgetown Bridge Weight of 8.7g and held 46.2lbs. for a ratio of 5.310g/lb - Strength to Weight Ratio
2nd Overall - Emma Schweickart from Eastern Bridge Weight of 28.5g and held 56.8 lbs. for a ratio of 1.99g/lb - Held the Most
Best Design - Danica Kirk from Eastern
Best Bridge Name - Zack Pritchard and JT Siders from Fayetteville

🔍✂️ Mrs. Spiller's Chemistry class has been diving into a one-of-a-kind project, blending science with creativity! Exploring the concept of the mole in chemistry, students not only learned about this fundamental unit but also learned how to sew. They crafted adorable mole plushies and built intricate dioramas. And that's not all – their handouts were packed with chemistry concepts and engaging problems to solve. #loveshctc

Please be aware that all of SHCTC's affiliate districts have confirmed they are doing an early release today (April 2, 2024)due to severe weather conditions- this includes Western Brown and RULH shuttle buses.
SHCTC will follow suit and once all affiliate districts buses have arrived to pick up students, we will dismiss our drivers and car riders. Dismissal will be at 12:20 for non-bus riders.

Mrs. Spiller's Advanced Science students have recently completed an engaging "Fishing Lab" to explore the concept of the Tragedy of the Commons. This hands-on experience provided them with firsthand insight into the complexities of sustainable resource management. 🐟🌱 #loveshctc

Mrs. Spiller's A & P class welcomed Guest Speaker Blake Canter!👩⚕️ Blake shared her incredible journey into becoming a NICU nurse, giving us a glimpse into the realities of this challenging yet rewarding profession. Yay or nay? Ms. Germann's junior English classes dive into the art of debate with 'This Way or That?' 10-minute writing prompts. From crafting arguments to honing persuasive skills, they're mastering real-world communication using informed, intelligent arguments going beyond simple opinions. #CriticalThinking #loveshctc




Today, in Adulting 101, students worked on valuable life skills including reading instructions, following step-by-step directions, and practicing patience through sewing on a button! Weekly 'adulting' activities are part of Ms. Germann's English 12 class. Students were surveyed to discover what they still wanted to learn before fully entering the real world. Ms. Germann compiled their ideas, along with other valuable life lessons, to create Adulting 101. Today proved to be a successful lesson and provided additional opportunities for some class members to step up as helpers. Plus, it's now "sew easy" for them to mend a button all on their own! #loveshctc





Principal Gray and Mrs Cunningham had lunch with the talented students who won a classroom competition. Congratulations to the young ladies as their designs will be used as promo materials for the district. Today, Mrs. Spiller's A & P students had the privilege of hosting Dr. Blake Spiller, a Licensed Physical Therapist and LSVT Certified expert, as our guest speaker. 💼👨⚕️ It was an enlightening session for those in the Clinical Health and Sports Medicine Labs, providing invaluable insights into this rewarding career path.
